The New Urban Agenda is a concept that resulted from Habitat III Conference with theme "Cities for All" which was held on 17 - 20 October 2016 in Quito, Ecuador. The Indonesian delegation was chaired by the Minister of Public Works and Housing, Basuki Hadimuljono. To make ground the concept of the New Urban Agenda contained in form of outcome document of the Habitat III, we necessary effort to make it implementable in national and local level. Thus, needs to be made a quick guide book to be easily applied and disseminated by all stakeholders.  

For this, Habitat Indonesia National Secretariat and Habitat Partnership in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Works and Housing are writting together to make quick guide book for implementation of the New Urban Agenda of the Habitat III Conference in 2016 in Quito, Ecuador.  

The quick guide book will be contained about four main discussion. The first is discuss briefly about background and history of Habitat I in Vancouver (1976), the second is about Habitat II, Istanbul (1996), and the third will talk about Habitat III Quito (2016), and its implications in public policy.  

Quick guide book will be contained the essence of the New Urban Agenda about the Declaration of Quito which have 175 chapters results of Habitat III Conference. It will also be enriched with Our Shared Vision, principles, implementation, and commitment to transformative, as well as follow-ups.  

In that book, we will talk about indicators of achievement form implementation of the New Urban Agenda in the development of sustainable cities, prosperity and opportunities of urban inclusive, development that has pro-environment, achievement of successful development of governance structures at urban levels, as well as the concepts of planning and managing urban spatial structure.  

And then, it also gives some the success stories that have done, such as Banda Aceh, Malang, Bogor, Palu, Mataram, and Banjarmasin. In addition, there will also be best practices from directorate in the Ministry of Public Works and Housing.  

Currently the process of preparing quick guide book is in the process advanced discussion related about indicator and mechanism to implementation. According to Mrs. Lana Winayanti, the Steering Committee of Habitat Indonesia National Secretariat, the current drafting process will be further discussed with several relevant ministries and academics.  

"The process of drafting quick guide book will involve various stakeholders, especially the ministries / institutions who have concerned, such as the Ministry of Planning and National Development and the Ministry of the Interior, and of course, the Ministry of Public Works and Housing. We do this to alignment and build government commitment to ground the New Urban Agenda ", she said.  

Hopes, this quick guide book will be useful to local governments and communities for implementation of the New Urban Agenda. According Mr. Wicaksono Sarosa, Executive Board Chairman of Habitat Partnership, a quick guide book is a practical and tactical guide for the local government.  

"Quick guide book is a practical guide, as well as tactical, to solve the problem which is apropriate to the New Urban Agenda of Habitat III Quito. This quick guide is very useful for local governments and communities to accelerate implementation of the New Urban Agenda so fast and effective ", he said.  

According to the plan, quick guide book to be completed in July 2017 and will be disseminated to all stakeholders. (Faisal/Seknas Habitat)
